JamesGolten.jpg 2012 Juniors Captain

My name is James Golten, I’m 17 years old and proud to be Pinner Hill’s Junior Captain for 2012. I joined the Golf Club in 2005 and since then have achieved a handicap of 12.
There are many opportunities for junior members at Pinner Hill. Every Saturday, a day of golf is organised for the younger juniors, whilst the older juniors have organised golf on Sundays. As well as this, juniors have the opportunity to represent their section and the club in various competitions and matches both at Pinner Hill and at other clubs, and once a junior receives a handicap of 9 he/she is able to play with the adults in their competitions.
The Junior Section at Pinner Hill is fantastic. With a current membership of about 100, of which roughly a quarter are girls, we have the largest junior section in the area. Despite our large size there is still a strong feel of community, and that we should all look out for each other. This is especially clear when the older juniors volunteer on Saturdays to walk round with the younger juniors and mark their card. If elected to do so, a junior has the opportunity to take part in the junior committee, a group which meets every two months, to discuss issues concerning the section, and how they might be addressed. As captain, I am fortunate to chair these meetings, in which the maturity of the section is clear.

James

GOLF SUCCESS FOR PINNER HILL JUNIORS

On Sunday 18 September 2011 Pinner Hill Golf Club Juniors played at Ealing Golf Club against North Middlesex Golf Club Juniors in the Friern League Cup Final.  Pinner Hill won by four and half matches to one and a half matches and will now play in the Regional Finals at Studley Wood Golf Club on 17 October 2011.  The last time that Pinner Hill Juniors won the League Cup Final was in 1989.

Order Of Merit

The first year of the HowDidiDo/Golf Monthly Order of Merit has now come to an end. And what a first year it has been. It only ran for 3 months of the season, but we had an unexpectedly enthusiastic response. More than 11000 golfers signed up in this first year to compete on the national stage. The whole of the UK was represented with participants spread across the country all qualifying to play on their own club course against a standard scratch score. The overall winners reflect the coverage of the competition with winners coming from across the UK and Ireland.

This year's winners are:

Overall and Men's winner - Michael Wilson - Playsport Golf Club, East Kilbride - 4022 points

Ladies Winner- Patricia Costello - Rathbane Golf Club, Limerick - 3672 points

Junior winner - Miss Priya Pankhania - Pinner Hill Golf Club, London - 4190 points

All winners will be contacted directly and the prizes dispatched as soon as is practical. The team at HowDidiDo and Golf Monthly would like to thank Titleist, FootJoy and PowaKaddy for their generous support in the Order of Merit.

The competition was put together to reward consistent play in club golf throughout the last three months of the 2011 season. Our winners have proved their skills in that arena. We thank everyone that took part and we look forward to the Order of Merit returning next year. In 2012 it will last the entire season and we look forward to inviting you again to take part with more competitors and bigger prizes.

About the Juniors Section

The section has a volunteer Junior Organiser and a team of volunteer assistants all of whom have undertaken appropriate training. Under their leadership the section has over 100 Boys & Girls aged 10 to 18 with recognized golf handicaps, who enjoy competitions, matches and subsidized coaching throughout the year.

Boys & Girls aged 6 + receive free beginners’ classes on Wednesday afternoons from Easter until Autumn and can progress to full membership of the Junior Section.
